Links to helpful sources of information concerning Java and databases

This page is dedicated to give you an overview of Open Source activities with special respect to Java and database connectivity.

At OpenSource.org, you will find definitions, philosophy and a lot of license models from different OSS organisations.

If you need a powerful, fast and comprehensive Open Source database server, you should visit FirebirdSQL.org, which is the OSS version of Borland's Interbase. JdbM is designed to work with Firebird.

If you want to download the latest Java Runtime Engine or Source Development Kit, go to Java.Sun.com (the Java 2 Runtime 1.4 or above is needed to run JdbM).

At Java.net you will find information around and about Java in general.

In order to connect to databases under Java you need to install the appropriate JDBC drivers. At the JDBC section of java.sun.com you will find general information.

If you are looking for a specific driver for your database server, you should have a look at the List of available JDBC drivers

For users of Lotus Domino/Notes, there is also a JDBC and an ODBC driver available. Refer to: JDBC driver for Domino/Notes.

If you are bored of your browser, there are powerful Open Source Internet Browsers available. Just look at the Mozilla.org site.

And last but not least, if you decided to write your own Java software, try out the Netbeans IDE, an Open Source IDE for Java
